Join ChampionX’ s Trade Compliance team as MEA Trade Compliance – Regulatory Specialist II in Dubai, UAE.

In this role, you will have a sole focus on the Trade Compliance activities that manage ChampionX’ s risk and ensure compliance with MEA and foreign trade compliance regulations.

You will primarily be responsible for providing support to the Global Trade Compliance program. The position will involve working with other global trade team members as well as coordinating with other corporate departments.

What You Will Do
  • Familiarity with local export/import permits requirements in MEA (i.e. UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Nigeria) specifically and maintain and update the international and national classification codes upon revision of the customs tariff nomenclature for Middle East and North Africa
  • Build relationship with local authorities and customs to monitor custom tariff & market access developments and introduce appropriate changes within the region
  • Responsible to provide advice and guide process to properly place items within & exit from the Jafza Zone (FTZ)
  • Responsible to provide advice and guide process to properly place items within the commerce of UAE from the Jafza Zone
  • Responsible to engage MEA customs authorities to resolve import and export issues within the region
  • Respond to inquiries regarding HS classification to ensure timely goods clearance
  • Support the Trade Compliance COE in the definition, maintenance and documentation of HS determination criteria
  • Manage and coordinate activities and requests related to HS codes with external partners
  • Participate in Trade compliance, market and divisional projects
  • HS Codes /Tarif codes: Determine and assign local classification of products based on the WCO Harmonized System – equipment and chemicals
  • Review and complete controlled goods classifications (i.e. Police items, Drug Precursors, CWC, Dual Use Goods/ECCN, Explosive Precursors) for chemicals and equipment.
  • Interface with operational groups to gather compliance data
  • Maintain, review, Trade compliance Policies and SOPs.
  • Support the development of MEA FTA program

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related technical field
  • Professional experience of 5 years and above in trade compliance and regulatory areas.
  • English & Arabic proficiency required both verbal and written.
  • Track record of exposure to relevant regulatory agencies and customs (Middle East and Africa)
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards governing import, distribution and sales in MEA
  • Team Player
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Project management experience
  • Works independently under general direction
  • Demonstrated grasp of business and regulatory processes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiar with Hazard communication side (GHS, SDS, labels, DG)
  • Efficient with Microsoft Office, VBA code, and SAP.

Preferred Qualifications
  • French proficiency verbal/written will be a plus
  • Experience with MEA customs and MEA local regulations are preferable
  • Any experience in Egypt, South Africa are a plus
  • Experience in chemical product HS code classifications will be preferred
  • Proven record of relationship building with local authorities/customs
  • Chemistry / Chemical products is a high plus
  • Regional FTA knowledge is strongly preferred
