As the medical manager for Biopharma in the field of hematology in the GCC region and reporting to the Biopharma General Manager. The Medical Manager will help develop and lead a highly skilled and experienced Hematology focused Medical team at Biopharma. As a core member of the hematology leadership team, this role provides a unique opportunity to be part of building out an innovative, agile medical affair’s team that effectively meets the needs of the rapidly changing healthcare /biotech landscape in the area of hematology.
We are seeking a Medical Manager to support our hematology portfolio in the GCC region. This individual will be responsible for leading a medical team, will have direct reports and be primarily accountable for consistently and effectively developing, in alignment with Biopharma’s Partner, the medical vision and strategy for molecules/indications assigned within the portfolio, overseeing their tactical execution ensuring all activities are completed on time, to high standards, according to local regulations and within budget. This individual’s responsibility is to help lead a potential near-term launch of a new product in the region.
Specific Responsibilities:
People Management/Leadership
  • Hire, develop and oversee the work of your direct reports, including Medical Science Liaisons.
  • Create an environment of strong team spirit, timely and effective communications, sense of urgency, high motivation and inspire the team to achieve goals in the immediate- and longer-term
  • Manage, oversee and take responsibility and accountability of resource requirements, compensation, expense budgets and others
  • Provide vision and strategic direction to your team 
Medical Strategy/Planning 
  • Work with team and therapeutic counterparts at Biopharma’s partner and global groups to align Medical Plans, goals and objectives at the affiliate, regional and global level
  • Take ownership and be accountable for the Medical Plan for the GCC region
  • Oversee and guide development of medical strategies during the whole lifecycle of products in the assigned portfolio. Advise senior leadership, direct reports and others internally and externally on strategic medical issues and considerations
  • Act as a key contributor to or lead for peer review sessions; includes acting as a frequent reviewer in internal review/decision-making committees
  • Provide critical, strategic insights and recommendations across multiple medical projects and other activities
Medical Affairs Management/Operations
  • Develop and maintain a network of HCPs as key opinion leaders in the field of hematology in the GCC region
  • Develop, organize and lead the GCC advisory boards for the GCC region. Align External Expert relationships with the needs of the functions and relevant medical initiatives on an ongoing basis
  • Provide support and advice upon unsolicited request top trating HCPs on the use of products from the assigned portfolio in accoordance to Biopharma standard response letters
  • Where possible provide input on medical queries from HCPs related to the disease and product by using Biopharma guidelines.
  • Assign team members as standing or ad hoc members of Regional Medical Affairs teams, other core and sub-teams where appropriate.
  • Develop and implement strategic field initiatives to support the medical objectives
  • Where applicable, provide medical affairs support for development of clinical trials (Phase II, Phase III)
  • Develop and deliver presentations, both internally and externally, to convey the medical perspective and provide updates on activities relevant to assigned portfolio or therapeutic area.
  • Attend and contribute at major scientific and medical conferences
  • Provide medical affairs input into competitive intelligence activities and projects
  • Provide expert review of published scientific and clinical literature
  • Oversee and guide design, execution and data interpretation of post-marketing clinical trials and other post-marketing medical investigations or studies
Communication/Other
  • Maintain the highest standards and levels of scientific, clinical and technical expertise in assigned therapeutic area
  • Have extensive interactions with prominent thought leaders and other relevant external parties
Cross-functional
  • Provide scientific support to commercial team.
  • Being a scientific reference to sales and marketing functions
  • Cross functional collaboration and alignment with medical department
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Advanced Clinical/Life Science Degree is required (MD, PhD, or equivalent)
  • Proven therapeutic area expertise in Hematology preferred
  • 10+ years of Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry experience or equivalent
  • Proven track record as the Regional Medical Lead for a biotechnology company
  • Experience in building a network of KOLs and managing Advisory Boards
  • Experience in formulating the medical strategy and medical plans for an innovator drug in the GCC region
  • GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and ICH (International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use) proficient
  • 2-3 Years minimum of managerial experience preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in Medical Affairs’ activities is preferred
  • Proven track record of effectively interacting with commercial/product development (PD)/clinical operations, regulatory, drug safety and cross functional medical affair’s teams (globally & US based) in the Biotech/pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong influencing skills proven abilities to get things done without formal authority
  • Strong negotiation skills and is highly adept at identifying solutions that will meet the needs of all parties involved
Preferred Experience, Special Skills, Knowledge:
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding objectives and goals
  • Has demonstrated effective leadership of multiple projects and teams
  • Clinical leadership able to evaluate, interpret and present highly complex data for a series of studies (prospective and retrospective); has made significant contributions involving strategic medical and tactical execution of an organizations’ medicines and programs.
  • Strategic agility has in-depth knowledge and broad experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry and is able to bring this to bear in accomplishing strategic goals and objectives
  • Outstanding organizational & time management skills proven to be flexible, agile including ability to manage multiple, often complex and sometimes competing, objectives, goals and other priorities to effective and efficient conclusion. Outstanding interpersonal skills proven track record of building strong and sustainable relationships with internal and external partners/stakeholders
  • Strong communication & presentation skills, exhibits professional maturity, confidence and competence. Knows how to summarize and communicate the key points and business case for others to effectively and expeditiously make important decisions
  • Proven abilities to plan and resource multiple projects on short-, medium- and longer-term bases
  • Strong customer orientation/focus
  • Business travel, by air or car, is required for regular internal and external business meetings including international travel
