Head of Communications - AstraZeneca

Job Summary:

Lead the internal and external communication agendas across the Near East & Maghreb (NEMAG) Cluster helping to develop programmes which build employee engagement internally and advance our reputation externally.

Key areas of responsibility:

Internal Communications

Lead the planning and delivery of the NEMAG Internal Communications Strategy to build belief and understanding in our strategy, drive priorities and business success, and make our company a great place to work
Be a strategic advisor, providing counsel and direction on communications to the Country President of NEMAG
Lead internal communications initiatives and campaigns that are aligned with local and broader AstraZeneca goals and drive employee engagement across the NEMAG cluster
Owner of all NEMAG communication channels in line with AstraZeneca Global requirements, with a focus digital tools
Develop content which provides awareness and drives action/ participation amongst employees
Lead communications to manage change and support the embedding of new processes and technologies
Unite the eleven markets which make up the NEMAG cluster by defining the NEMAG narrative and purpose
Elevate key success stories from NEMAG to the MEA and International audiences
Provides counsel to NEMAG Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to develop their knowledge and skills with internal communications
Work with the NEMAG SLT to develop comprehensive, integrated communications plans for relevant business priorities
Ensure all internal communications share a unified, on-brand look and feel that reflect the company’s business priorities and strategy
External Communications

Lead the development and delivery of a robust External Communications Strategy across NEMAG which is consistent with business priorities, long term aspirations and global guidelines
Lead external communications activities that advance AstraZeneca’s reputation across the NEMAG markets
Provide senior public relations counsel on an ad hoc basis to all brand teams
Align with Government affairs teams for engagement with Government officials, stakeholders and partnership related Media activities
Partner on the execution of critical programmes which drive success in our brands, specifically supporting key approvals and launch activities
Develop external communications content including social media content, press releases, and FAQs
Establish a framework for external engagements through creation of country fact sheets and top stakeholders’ biographies, mapping the media landscape and creating an external engagement plan in an aim to build presence and position the organization as a leader in the healthcare industry
Ensure that key Corporate Responsibility activities are communicated for publication in annual reporting and communicated broadly to major stakeholders
General Management

Measure the effectiveness of key communications and programs, and use insights to continually evolve and improve the communications (both content and channel) used
Successfully partner with key stakeholders across the NEMAG cluster, namely Leadership Team members; Government Affairs and Human Resources colleagues, to identify key communication opportunities and to provide strategic communications counsel when needed.
Be a key member of the NEMAG Leadership Team and communications networks
Minimum Criteria:

Considerable internal and external communications experience with minimum of 5 years of leading the communications strategic agenda
Higher education, preferable in communications/ journalism, otherwise certification and solid trainings in the relevant area is desirable.
Global communications experience, with ability to work in a global environment including understanding of cultural differences
Successful experience at supporting senior leaders through communications counsel, developing effective communication strategies and implementing integrated communication plans
Digital and social media skills
Competencies and Personal Attributes:

Strong project and change management skills
First-rate coordination, collaboration, organization and multi-tasking skills
Business acumen
Strategic thinking
Knowledge of Pharmaceutical industry
External communications background, i.e. public relations or journalism experience
Healthcare marketing/ communications experience
Ability to understand and interpret scientific and medical data
Excellent English – written and spoken
French language is a plus
